When a mountain lion appeared at the back door of her home, a rescue dog made a surprising decision to stay and protect his family instead of fleeing. The owner, a fashion designer and civil engineer, was taken aback by Rocky’s actions as he had always been known for his lovely and kind personality. Despite not being an aggressive dog, Rocky showed his loyalty and bravery in a moment of danger.

According to The Epoch Times, Mary recounted the moment when she opened her sliding door and came face-to-face with a mountain lion. The animal was focused on chasing her dogs, but Mary’s dog Rocky bravely fought back to protect his fellow canines. Mary is also a dog rescuer and chose Rocky for his energetic disposition.

According to her, he acted on his protective instinct rather than his intelligence. She was surprised by his attempt to rescue her because of his natural instinct to do so. However, it was a frightening experience as he ended up attacking the cougar.

In a matter of moments, the cougar and Rocky were out of sight. Naturally, Mary and her family members were anxious about their beloved dog’s safety. Without hesitation, they ventured into the darkness of the night, calling out Rocky’s name in hopes of finding him. Suddenly, they heard barking which gave them some hope, but it didn’t last long. Mary admitted that they felt uneasy and sensed that something was amiss. To be safe, they grabbed their flashlights and made their way up the hill. After about thirty minutes of searching and calling out to Rocky, they heard tiny footsteps approaching them.

Mary recounted feeling apprehensive at the sound of fast-paced footsteps, until they realized it was their dog Rocky rushing towards them. They caught him as he collapsed in their embrace. The next morning, they were relieved to have been able to promptly bring Rocky to the veterinarian. He had sustained injuries from the mountain lion attack, suffering from severe bites on his head and throat that left him bleeding and struggling to breathe.
