Touching and Captivating: Stray Dog Rescued from Thousands of Ticks on the Streets

Let me introduce you to Belle. On a beautiful September day, a team of animal lovers on a rescue mission in Johannesburg, South Africa, came across Belle’s pitiful state that left them shattered.

When you take a glance at Belle, you’ll immediately notice those tiny white bumps that are covering her ears and eyes. Don’t worry, it’s not some sort of skin disease, but actually a tick infestation. It’s hard not to feel empathy for her because she is practically covered in these bloodsucking parasites.

The ticks have mostly gathered around her ears and eyelids as these areas have sensitive skin with abundant blood vessels. Belle has been drained of so much blood due to the ticks’ constant feeding that she has become almost anemic and too weak to walk around.

For those who love dogs, these pictures may be a challenge to bear. But they are necessary to highlight the harsh reality that abandoned dogs like Belle have to face. The organization that found Belle, called CLAW, had a difficult task ahead of them. They couldn’t remove most of the ticks from Belle immediately because it would cause her to lose too much blood. Therefore, they opted to provide her with treatment and wait for the ticks to fall off on their own.

Although it was tough to see Belle in pain, the strategy for treatment turned out to be effective. In the end, all the ticks were gone, and Belle began to recover.

Despite some scars, Belle seems unfazed by them and is now a charming and happy pup with a beautiful fur coat. The areas where she lost hair due to ticks are regrowing, and most importantly, she has finally found happiness. The most heartening part of this tale is that Belle has been adopted into a loving and caring home with a human named Hannah.

As stated on CLAW’s Facebook page, Hannah and Belle’s meeting resulted in an immediate connection, and they have been inseparable ever since. Belle is flourishing in her new life, enjoying the luxuries it offers and improving every day. It’s evident that Belle is one happy pup!

The remarkable work of the kind-hearted people at CLAW and the kindness of Hannah have turned Belle’s story into a classic triumph in animal rescue. You can visit CLAW’s Facebook page to find out more about dogs in desperate need in South Africa. Remember to share this touching tale with your loved ones.
